The featured quote is from physicist Albert Bartlett, it reads: "The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function."
It would be lovely to live in a time where this was the greatest shortcoming of our human race. At the same time, Bartlett's words serve as a warning to be aware of what is happening around you - often by the time you realize something is amiss - it is way beyond your control.
The print depicts a scarab which played an uncommon role in ancient Egyptian culture. Extraordinarily frequent as an artistic motif, the beetle's name and image portrayed the idea of birth, of life, and especially the second birth into eternal existence. The scarab's popularity went well beyond Egypt.
